Thursday Workshops : The Edible & Medicinal Appalachian Flora Led by Abby Artemisia, Life in the Forest;  Poultry Raising & Processing Led by Gred Gross, and Permaculture & Sustainable Relationships Led by Steve Torma.  All workshops will be held at the Arthur Morgan School and  will go from 10:00 to 6:00PM. Thursday dinner and camping is NOT INCLUDED in the price. Hand-outs and supplies will be provided in the workshop. Please don’t forget to bring snacks and a sack lunch.

Sign in At the Registration Table: We need everyone to sign in when you arrive so we know who is at the Gathering and so you can sign the waivers required by the Arthur Morgan School. Don’t forget to bring cash or checks for those of you who still need to pay in full.

Don't forget to bring:
It’s August, but nights do get cool at 2700 feet above sea level so bring warm clothes for the evening. Also, be sure to bring your camping gear, rain gear, personal snacks, musical instruments, ceremonial clothes for Saturday night, seeds to share, transplants/plants to give away, wares to trade or sell, precious offerings for a give-away, information to share.
For Ceremony on Saturday night:
  • Bring seeds from past year's ceremonies that you've grown, and especially seeds of perennial useful plants that you've grown and are interested in sharing during the ceremony.
  • Drums and Flashlights
Foods to Bring:
  • Homemade jams and jellies as spreads for the breakfast breads

Youth Program for the Kids:
News Flash for  Local Celo/Toe River Parents: If your child is between the ages of 5 and 16, you can register them for the Gathering for a day camp experience Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th from 9am to 4pm!  Don't forget that we have some great fun and exploration for kids during the Gathering.  Please contact Sarah Anne Amason by clicking here.

On Getting To the Gathering:    THERE IS ROAD CONSTRUCTION, and traffic due to the Burnsville Craft Fair in Burnsville. If you come on 19E from I-26, you can expect delays. Click here for directions.

Carpooling:  Consider reducing your carbon print by riding with someone. Simply  go to the attached link to find out who in your area is also going to the Gathering.  Contact List for the SEPG2015

Camping: Most camping sites are in a flat open field. Tents may be set up after 5:00 on Thursday. No camping is allowed Sunday night.

Schedule: The Gathering begins with breakfast at 8:00 on Friday morning and the complete schedule is online. Plan to be at the open space session at 11:00 on Friday morning; the affinity circles and other gathering are planned during that session. The Gathering ends early Sunday afternoon after our closing circle.

Evenings: There is a dinner served Thursday evening.  Please register in advance!  Friday night there will be a mead circle (bring yours to share), and we'll be having an open-mic - so bring a song, or poem, or short story to share. We will also be showing a documentary or film inside of the AMS building.   On Saturday night, please join us in a Ceremony which all of us will participate in.

Making Sacred the Mead Circle with Seeds, Stories, and Song on Friday night:
Last year we received feedback from some participants that the mead circle in recent years has become chaotic and perhaps lost its focus, so we are going to seek a  sacred moment in time during the Gathering to share seeds and stories and beautiful songs on Friday night. Please bring:
  •  Meads and their stories, and we are requesting that you also bring an awareness around focus and some moderation to help include more of our homies and keep it sweet;
  • Seeds from one species of useful plant that you've grown, and your stories of where they came from, how you eat or use them and what your practical/mystical experiences have been in relationship with them. Since our Gathering theme this year is "Embracing Succession", consider bringing seeds of perennial or woody plants. Although we embrace all kingdoms of life, please do not bring any mosquito larvae or baby ticks to share.
  • Your favorite songs that you might want to share in such a context.

Food: The food at the gathering is excellent with much of it coming from local farms. Three vegetarian meals will be provided each day; however, if you have any special dietary needs, please come prepared. We are grateful for your garden harvests, too - contact Marc Williams at italmon@hotmail.com  if you will be bringing culinary delights from your garden to share.  We will be grilling fresh, poultry raised right here at the Arthur Morgan School on Saturday night.  There will be no additional charge for chicken.

Volunteering: “Many hands make light work.” Each participant is requested to work a 2 hour shift during the gathering. You will be asked to commit to a time slot when you register.
